Several of the latest Mazda models are gaining a distinctive 2024 Mazda Carbon Turbo treatment for the new year. Mazda announced the arrival of the Carbon Turbo trim for the new CX-30, CX-5, and Mazda3 models. The new Mazda Carbon Turbo package will feature an alternative exterior and interior color combination to the popular Carbon Edition trims that have been widely available for several model years.
Zircon Sand Metallic, one of the latest colors to join the Mazda paint color collection on select models like the Mazda CX-50, MX-5 Miata, and Mazda3, will be the exclusive exterior color of the new Mazda Carbon Turbo editions for 2024. And it’s paired with an equalling striking interior color treatment that, together, may divide opinion.

Meet the New Mazda Carbon Turbo Models
Firstly, motorists interested in the 2024 Mazda Carbon Turbo package will have a choice of three models, including the new:
- Mazda CX-30 Carbon Turbo
- Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo
- Mazda3 Sedan Carbon Turbo
- Mazda3 Hatchback Carbon Turbo
The new Mazda Carbon Turbo trim is not replacing the popular Carbon Edition, highlighted by a Polymetal Gray Metallic exterior and red leather interior. Instead, the 2024 Mazda Carbon Turbo package will be made available alongside the Carbon Edition, currently reserved for non-turbo variants of several Mazda models.
There will undoubtedly be some car and SUV shoppers who want the new Carbon Turbo color treatment without the turbocharged engine, and those who want the Carbon Edition’s Polymetal Gray and red color combination with the turbo-four powertrain.
But it seems for now Mazda will be keeping these two editions and their color combinations separated with only one engine option each.
2024 Mazda Carbon Turbo Colors
The popular Carbon Edition and its Polymetal Gray Metallic on red leather interior combination present a striking contrast of colors. However, for the Carbon Turbo editions of the Mazda CX-5, CX-30, and Mazda3, the automaker went a tan-brown-black aesthetic for the exterior, interior, and accent trim.
New Carbon Turbo Exterior
Zircon Sand Metallic debuted on the 2023 Mazda CX-50 and quickly reached other models like the new Mazda3 and MX-5 Miata. This custom color features an earthly tone and changes with the light that hits it like other Mazda premium colors. Depending on the lighting, the 2024 Mazda Carbon Turbo models’ Zircon Sand Metallic color displays as tan or champagne, with a yellow or green cast.
While this warm color was originally developed specifically for the rugged Mazda CX-50, it takes on a new look when applied to the CX-30, CX-5, and Mazda3 models.
Other Mazda Carbon Turbo exterior features include black wheels, a black grille, and black door mirror caps.
Mazda Carbon Turbo Interior
Fans and shoppers of recent Mazda models will likely be familiar with the interior color chosen for the new Mazda Carbon Turbo. Terracotta leather was, until recently, only available inside the Mazda CX-50 and MX-5 Miata. Now, the automaker’s terracotta leather has been selected as the interior treatment for all of the new 2024 Carbon Turbo editions.
What’s different this go around is that the terracotta-colored leather-upholstered seats feature unique black suede inserts spanning the entire center section of the seat bottom and back. These new Carbon Turbo packages’ terracotta and black seating treatment differs greatly from the Mazda CX-50, as the latter features a thin black vertical stripe and corresponding stitching down the center of the seats.

The New Carbon Turbo: Engine and Specs
Every Carbon Turbo edition of the 2024 Mazda CX-5, CX-30, and Mazda3 comes powered by Mazda’s Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine, paired with a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. Power output for all three Mazda models in the Carbon Turbo trim is rated up to 320 pound-feet of torque and 250 horsepower when running on premium fuel, or 310 pound-feet of torque and 227 horsepower when fed regular 87-octane fuel.
The automaker’s advanced i-Activ AWD system will be standard on the Carbon Turbo SUV models, the 2024 CX-5 and CX-30, and available on the Mazda3 Carbon Turbo sedan and hatchback.
