If we were a betting website — and we aren’t (we’re a Mazda car auction site) — we’d bet that this all-new three-row SUV follows a similar trim naming structure to that of the first-ever Mazda CX-50 that it is following into Mazda showrooms.

That is to say, Mazda CX-90 trim levels like the Preferred, Preferred Plus, Premium and Premium Plus might make an appearance. It seems much more likely to see this trim naming structure than, say, more traditional Mazda trim levels like the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring returning.

So, will there be a 2024 Mazda CX-90 Select, CX-90 Preferred, and CX-90 Premium? Only time will tell. But there’s another factor regarding the 2024 Mazda CX-90 trims: the powertrain factor.

Current and newly released Mazda models utilize the S and Turbo monikers in the trim level names to designate the Mazda Skyactiv engine powering the vehicle. Mazda has confirmed its new longitudinal-engine platform will arrive with the Mazda CX-90 in the form of a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six configuration, aided by a mild-hybrid system, and produce 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

The turbocharged straight-six engine will be supplemented by a plug-in hybrid variant, utilizing the automaker’s new setup comprised of its inline four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack, and should offer increased efficiency over the inline-six turbo option.

We think it’s safe to assume that every 2024 Mazda CX-90 will come standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), just like every new Mazda SUV has as of late.

New Mazda CX-90 Color: Artisan Red Premium

Maybe you’ve seen some Mazda CX-90 renderings, some potential Mazda CX-90 spy shots circling the internet. So far, Mazda has only released official teaser images, but that is expected to change very soon, as the full reveal is set for January 2023. Following the model’s official debut, Mazda will announce the Mazda CX-90 release date, its expected arrival date on dealership lots, trim levels, specs and pricing.

One thing for sure is that there will be an all-new Mazda exterior color debuting with the Mazda CX-90, and it’s called Artisan Red Premium. This new exterior color joins those that came before it — like Soul Red and Machine Gray Metallic — and the newly released Rhodium White Premium as Mazda’s premium paint colors.

The automaker describes the design concept of this new premium Mazda color as inspired by a mature wine, so we should expect the new Artisan Red Premium color on the 2024 Mazda CX-90 to be a deeper, darker red than Soul Red. Mazda utilized its proprietary Takuminuri painting technology to develop the new premium shade of red for its large segment vehicles, including the CX-90 and upcoming Mazda CX-70 two-row SUV.

Artisan Red Premium is the fourth in the line of Takuminuri colors and was developed in part to commemorate the evolution of the automaker’s Takuminuri painting process ten years after the release of the first color, Soul Red. Like Soul Red, Artisan Red Premium comprises three layers: a reflective layer, a translucent paint layer and a clear layer.
