Mazda CX-70 Trims, Colors & Prices Review

The Mazda CX-70 trims have been released following the debut of this new midsize SUV that joins the three-row CX-90 in the Mazda premium midsize SUV lineup. Mazda CX-70 prices are also out, with some surprises for those who have been awaiting this SUV’s arrival. So, a full CX-70 review is in order.

The Mazda CX-70 is eerily similar to the three-row model it’s based upon, but there are still several differences in the CX-70 colors, interior features, trim levels, and configurations that make it a worthy alternative to the CX-90 for those who never plan on needing a third row.

A few of the features that differentiate the new CX-70 trims from their three-row stablemate include an optimized rear cargo area with unique in-floor covered storage, additional storage compartments, and remote-folding rear seats for easier access to the expandable cargo hold.

Mazda CX-70 Review: Seven Trims to Choose From

The two-row CX-70 arrives with a slimmed-down version of the three-row CX-90’s trim lineup. Seven Mazda CX-70 packages or trims are offered, which include editions spanning three engine configurations. So, each of the three CX-70 powertrains has two to three trim levels: a more simplified lineup than the CX-90 that debuted a year prior.

If you’re familiar with the Mazda CX-90 lineup, you’ll notice that several of its lower packages are missing from the new CX-70 trims lineup, namely the 3.3 Turbo Select and 3.3 Turbo Preferred Plus.

With no 3.3 Turbo Select offered, the 3.3 Turbo Preferred becomes the base model of this new two-row SUV.

However, Mazda is rolling out the CX-70 3.3 Turbo S and PHEV trim levels first, from Spring 2024, with the 280-horsepower base engine 3.3 Turbo trims arriving from Fall 2024.

Here’s a look at the seven CX-70 trim levels in order of price, starting with the 3.3 Turbo Preferred base trim:

Meet the Mazda CX-70 Trim Levels

CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred

The Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred base model arrives from Fall 2024 with a starting price of $40,445: the same MSRP as the 2024 CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred, the second trim in the three-row model’s line.

By skipping the Select trim, Mazda is positioning the CX-70 with even more premium features in its base model than the SUV’s three-row sibling. It’s also meant to reduce the number and complexity of the trim level lineup.

The premium new CX-70 SUV comes standard with black leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. This sporty model starts with a striking blacked-out exterior theme, including black, gray, and black chrome elements.

CX-70 3.3 Turbo models like the Preferred package get an electrified 280-horsepower 3.3-liter inline-six turbo engine under the hood boasting a 48-volt M-Hybrid Boost system, an eight-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission, and i-Activ all-wheel drive (AWD).

Other highlights of the CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred trim include:

Bold 21-inch alloy wheels with a Black Metallic finish grace the exterior of the second in line of the CX-70 trims, the 3.3 Turbo Premium. A Towing mode for the Mi-Drive system is also added, aiding the CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium and higher trims in reaching a 5,000-pound maximum tow rating when properly equipped with genuine Mazda towing accessories.

Other CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium upgrades that build upon the solid foundation of the base trim include:

  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Black pillar garnishes
  • Shark fin antenna
  • 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display

CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus

The final Mazda CX-70 Turbo trim before moving into the high-output Turbo S editions is the 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus.

As the highest package or trim level equipped with the 280-horsepower inline-six turbo, the 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus adds plenty of upscale amenities you’ll also find on the more powerful and pricier CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV trims to come.

Highlights of the Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus include:

CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium

Next in line within the Mazda CX-70 pricing structure is the 3.3 Turbo S Premium. The subtle addition of an “S” in the trim name indicates this CX-70 turbo model gets the high-output version of the automaker’s new 3.3-liter inline-six engine with mild-hybrid technology, generating up to 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Mazda’s Mi-Drive system with Sport, Off-Road, and Towing modes is included, as is a 5,000-pound towing capacity when properly equipped with genuine Mazda trailering kit.

Two-tone black metal and machine-cut alloy wheels measuring 21 inches in diameter are mounted at all four corners of the Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium. Piano black exterior accents adorn the rear spoiler, roof rails, side mirrors, and the front grille with a distinctive honeycomb mesh inlay.

Elsewhere, this high-powered edition includes or builds upon many of the upscale amenities we’ve already covered with lower trim levels.

For instance, the 3.3 Turbo S Premium package gets:

Mazda motorists wanting to add plug-in power to their drive can start by looking at the CX-70 PHEV Premium, the first of two plug-in hybrid trims of this new large two-row SUV.

An e-Skyactiv PHEV powertrain motivates the Mazda CX-70 PHEV Premium and the top-trim CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus that follows. An electric motor powered by a 17.8-kWh battery pack assists a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four engine, resulting in up to 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

With an estimated 26 miles of pure electric range, up to 56 MPGe, and a 3,500-pound towing capacity when properly equipped, the CX-70 PHEV Premium presents robust power matched with excellent efficiency.

The new Mazda CX-70 PHEV models get standard features like:

The CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus boasts all the amenities of the mid-level Premium edition but adds upscale upgrades like:
