1983 Mazda RX-7 GS: Mazda Gem of the Day

1983 Mazda RX-7 GS: Mazda Gem of the Day

If you’re into brown-on-brown eighties sports cars, then you’re going to love this Mazda Gem of the Day: a 1983 Mazda RX-7 GS.

This 1983 Mazda RX-7 GS listed for sale in Miami has a mere 21,391 original miles on its odometer. Between its low miles and clean condition, it’s about as close as you’ll come to an early ’80s rotary time capsule.

Like other FB Mazda RX-7 sports cars (except the later 13B-powered GSL-SE model), this 1983 RX-7 GS came standard with a 12A twin-rotor engine producing 100 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

But unlike most first-gen RX-7s you’ll find for sale these days, this roughly 40-year-old Mazda rotary sports car has been driven the equivalent of under 600 miles per year since its manufacture.

We’re not sure how common this brown-on-brown treatment was during this era of the Mazda RX-7, but it certainly works here.

The brown interior shows well and compares favorably to some of the cabin and seating material choices in earlier series-one SA RX-7s from 1979-80.

As you’d expect for such a low-mileage example, this 1983 Mazda RX-7 for sale appears about as factory-original and well-preserved as you can hope to find.

At the time of this writing, the seller of this ’83 RX-7 GS is asking $25,995, a pretty penny for sure. But then again, this low-mileage and well-preserved example is far from your average FB RX-7 for sale.

We can only hope this retro rotary coupe won’t spend its next 40-plus years of existence parked in a garage.

What was it like driving a Mazda RX-7 GS in the early eighties? We’ll leave it to this MotorWeek Retro Review to explain:
