Mazda RX-3 Wagon: Mazda Gem of the Day

Mazda RX-3 Wagon: Mazda Gem of the Day

Today’s gem is a rotary-powered rarity: a 1974 Mazda RX-3 Wagon.

This 1974 Mazda RX-3 for sale was built for a Mazda collector and parked indoors for over 10 years.

According to the seller, this RX-3 Wagon features a freshly built and streetported 13B rotary engine. In addition, it’s equipped with MSD ignition, a Holley fuel system and a nice carb setup.

The car’s 5-speed manual transmission and 4-spoke alloy wheels are off a Mazda RX-7.

The RX-3 debuted in 1971 as a coupe, saloon and even an estate variant, like the rotary wagon you see here. However, Mazda only used the RX-3 model name for export-market rotaries. In Japan, this rotary-powered model was called the Mazda Savanna.

Mazda’s 1146cc 12A engine was utilized in all US-market RX-3s, producing 125 hp, while a 109-hp 10A engine was used in other markets.

286,757 RX-3s were built, placing it among the most popular rotary-powered Mazdas in sales behind the RX-7 and its three generations.
