Mazda RX-8 R3: Mazda Gem of the Day

Mazda motorists seeking a special rotary-powered car should consider one like today’s Mazda Gem of the Day, a 2011 Mazda RX-8 R3. This Renesis-powered RX-8 boasts under 35,000 miles and represents the final year of the Mazda RX-8 and the rotary engine in most markets.

This 2011 Mazda RX-8 R3 is part of the Series 2 RX-8 that ran from 2009 to 2011. The Series 2 offered a long list of updates and upgrades from the original and more common Series 1 RX-8 rotary four-door coupes, including upgrades to the Renesis two-rotor engine, radiator, starter, exhaust system, 6-speed manual transmission, suspension and many other components.

The 2009 model year and Series 2 also brought the arrival of the R3 trim, like today’s gem. The Mazda RX-8 R3 received further enhancements over the other Series 2 RX-8 trims, including both performance upgrades and aesthetic updates.

Today’s Mazda Gem of the Day and every other RX-8 R3 edition received the following exclusive factory enhancements:

  • 19-inch forged aluminum wheels
  • Bilstein shocks
  • Foam-filled front crossmembers
  • Recaro leather-trimmed bucket seats
  • 300-watt Bose stereo

A unique R3-exclusive aero kit is also included, featuring a more aggressive front bumper with a front lip spoiler, side-sill extensions and a rear spoiler.

With just 34,850 miles, this is one prime example of a last-of-its-era Mazda rotary sports car. At the time of this writing, this pristine 2011 Mazda RX-8 R3 for sale has an asking price of $24,750, with a sale pending.
