CX-70 Release Date: Updated Launch & Arrival

CX-70 Release Date: Updated Launch & Arrival

New Mazda SUV production line

Midsize SUV shoppers hoping to see the CX-70 release date before the end of 2023 will have to wait a bit longer. According to sources at Mazda, the Mazda CX-70 release date has been delayed several months.

Here’s by how much, and when to expect Mazda CX-70 availability near you:

Mazda CX-70 Launch Delayed by Months

Mazda has decided to delay the upcoming CX-70 release date by about five months. This all-new midsize two-row SUV model was initially expected by SUV buyers — and scheduled by Mazda — to arrive in the second half of 2023, likely in the fourth quarter.

However, the CX-70 launch date has been pushed back several months, meaning that this highly anticipated Mazda SUV model will now arrive in early spring of 2024 instead.

First-Ever CX-70 Mazda SUV Arrives in Early Spring 2024

The CX-70 was originally intended to arrive as a 2024 model within the same calendar year as its new premium Mazda midsize SUV stablemate, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 three-row model. But according to sources, there will no longer be a 2024 Mazda CX-70 release date.

Instead, the first-ever CX-70 will be marketed and sold as a 2025 model when it arrives in early 2024.

As we suspected in our original Mazda CX-70 release date coverage, it seems Mazda wants to put enough space between the launches of the 2024 CX-90 three-row model and the upcoming 2025 CX-70 two-row model. The CX-90 has been well-received and, along with the CX-50 compact SUV, has helped the automaker drive sales and return to profitability in the latest quarter.

Perhaps Mazda feels the three-row model deserves a bit more time in the limelight before its shorter-wheelbase variant arrives in the form of the first-ever CX-70. With strong sales of the CX-90 so far, it’s understandable why the carmaker decided to delay its next big model launch several months until early spring of 2024.

Still, this likely isn’t the news potential CX-70 buyers wanted to hear. If there’s good news to share, it’s that the start of Mazda CX-70 production is just around the corner.

According to the latest from Mazda sources, CX-70 production will begin in December 2023 for an early 2024 ship date to a Mazda dealer near you. That is if you’re located in one of the markets receiving the CX-70 instead of the already released CX-60.

With the CX-70 release date now falling roughly a year after the 2024 Mazda CX-90 three-row model arrived in early 2023, it’s no wonder why Mazda also decided to update the upcoming SUV from a 2024 to a 2025 model.

We’ll be going into more depth as to why Mazda delayed the CX-70 release date shortly, but we first wanted to update you on the latest CX-70 news concerning its availability.
